The main component of silkworm cocoons is the protein Sericin. Sericin has the same composition as the corresponding skin glycoprotein, which makes it easily absorbed by the skin. It stimulates the cell proliferation, it is responsible for the glow, elasticity and firmness of the skin. It actually acts like glue and binds the collagen fibers together, giving the skin a firm appearance.
They also contain Silk Fibroin which helps wounds to heal, as it is considered a beta-keratin related to the proteins that create hair, skin, nails and connective tissues.
