Work, explore, and immerse yourself in a city where sea, history, and contemporary life converge.
The 2026 open call invites artists, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners to explore the relationship between concept and material.
We welcome practices that engage with:
- material as a carrier of meaning
- the translation of ideas into applied forms
- the intersection of art, design, and everyday objects
- the influence of place, architecture, and memory on artistic production
Within this framework, participants are encouraged to develop work in dialogue with the layered identity of Kavala.
A distinctive feature of the residency is the possibility of exploring applications on silk, translating artistic concepts into limited-edition textile pieces in connection with MANTILITY’s practice.
Residency Format
The residency is self-directed and lightly structured, offering time and space for focused work within a supportive environment.
Artists are invited to:
- develop new or ongoing projects
- engage with the local cultural context
- present their work through informal or public formats
The program functions as a platform for exchange, rather than a fixed schedule.
The residency program offers:
- Αccess to a distributed working environment between MANTILITY Studio and EPÀRCHÎA Design Boîte
- Αccommodation options through selected local partners
- Αccess to exhibition and presentation platforms within an active cultural space
- Τhe possibility of a final presentation, exhibition, or open format, depending on the artist’s practice
- Οpportunities for public engagement, networking, and integration within the local creative community, connection with a network of artists and designers
- Curatorial and conceptual support
Materials are not provided. Artists work independently according to their practice.
Disciplines
All contemporary practices are welcome, including:
visual arts, design, textile, photography, writing, performance, film, and interdisciplinary approaches.
MANTILITY welcomes artists, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners from diverse geographical backgrounds and at various stages of their practice.
Accommodation
Accommodation is optional and arranged in collaboration with selected local guesthouses and partners, with options in both the Old Town and the contemporary city center.
Fees and Structure
The residency operates on a fee-based model.
Details regarding participation fees and accommodation options are shared following the expression of interest and initial application.
Expectations Towards the Artist
Participants are invited to share their practice through a presentation, exhibition, or open format, depending on the nature of their work.
The residency encourages the development of work that engages with the context of place and material.

Kavala is a city shaped by its position between land and sea, where historical layers coexist with contemporary life.
