MANTILITY Artist Residency is a contemporary, experience-based program located in Kavala, a historic coastal city in Northern Greece where architecture, trade history, and everyday life intersect.
The residency operates across two distinct locations:
EPÀRCHÎA Design Boîte, situated in the historic center of the city, directly opposite the iconic Kamares aqueduct in the Old Town, and MANTILITY Studio, located in the contemporary urban center.
Together, these spaces create a distributed environment where artistic practice is developed in dialogue with both the past and present of the city.
International artists are invited to participate through an open call and become part of a curated cultural platform connecting art, design, and material production.

OPEN CALL 2026: Stories in Matter
The 2026 open call invites artists, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners to explore the relationship between concept and material.
We welcome practices that engage with:
- material as a carrier of meaning
- the translation of ideas into applied forms
- the intersection of art, design, and everyday objects
- the influence of place, architecture, and memory on artistic production
Within this framework, participants are encouraged to develop work in dialogue with the layered identity of Kavala.
A distinctive feature of the residency is the possibility of exploring applications on silk, translating artistic concepts into limited-edition textile pieces in connection with MANTILITY’s practice.
The residency is self-directed and lightly structured, offering time and space for focused work within a supportive environment.
Artists are invited to:
- develop new or ongoing projects
- engage with the local cultural context
- present their work through informal or public formats
The program functions as a platform for exchange, rather than a fixed schedule.

- Αccess to exhibition and presentation platforms within an active cultural space
- Τhe possibility of a final presentation, exhibition, or open format, depending on the artist’s practice

- Curatorial and conceptual support
Materials are not provided. Artists work independently according to their practice.
All contemporary practices are welcome, including:
visual arts, design, textile, photography, writing, performance, film, and interdisciplinary approaches.
MANTILITY welcomes artists, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners from diverse geographical backgrounds and at various stages of their practice.
The residency operates on a fee-based model.
The participation fee is €1,500 for a 3-week residency, including access to the working environments of MANTILITY Studio and EPÀRCHÎA Design Boîte, as well as opportunities for presentation and public engagement.
Accommodation is optional and can be arranged in collaboration with selected local partners.
In addition, the residency offers a limited accommodation option in a private house with a garden and sea view, located within the city. The house (95 sq.m) with a 70 sq.m outdoor garden can host one or two artists and is available for €2,000 for a 3-week stay. It is situated approximately 3 minutes from EPÀRCHÎA Design Boîte and 12 minutes from MANTILITY Studio, offering easy access to both residency locations.
Residents are also supported in finding alternative accommodation options in Kavala, according to their preferences and needs.
A deposit of €750 is required to secure participation, with the remaining balance due prior to or upon arrival.
Participants are invited to share their practice through a presentation, exhibition, or open format, depending on the nature of their work.
The residency encourages the development of work that engages with the context of place and material.

Kavala is a city shaped by its position between land and sea, where historical layers coexist with contemporary life.
