Cacao Rocks
Yassonas Megoulas (aka Cacao Rocks), son of the sculptor Georges Megoulas, was born in Athens in 1985. He’s been active in the street art scene since 1999. Megoulas studied French Literature at University of Athens and the Univercite d’Angers in France; afterwards studying at the Focus School of Photography on a scholarship won from the video art competition “Shoot It” (2011).
His work has been exhibited in a number of foundations, museums, and galleries around the world: Benaki Museum, Onassis Cultural Center, Michael Cacoyiannis Foundation, Bouzianis Museum, Salomon Arts Gallery NY, AG18 Gallery (Vienna), Zoumboulaki Gallery among others. His art and activity has been covered by the international press, notably: the New York Times, National Geographic, BBC, and the Guardian. Yassonas Megoulas has been invited by universities and organizations in both the Greek and US to give lectures and workshops (University of Michigan, TedX, the Onassis Foundation, New School, Deree University, WETRANSFER).
His artistic media has a wide range, including painting, sculpture, installations, video art, and performance. He has also created artwork and branding for international brands, such as: NIKE, DUO, Remy Cointreau. In 2017, he represented Greece at Mediterranea 18 Young Artists Biennale. In 2018 he was honoured with the “Artworks” award from Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
