This MANTILITY silk scarf depicts Dimitra Bouritsa’s painting “Je rêvais de joies infinies, de voluptés qui sont du ciel”. The initial thought of the artist was to create a visual diary, like an illustrated fairy tale book, without a specific text, where each image tells its own story, but they remain connected. Borrowing the title from Flaubert’s book “Memoires d’un fou” she wanted to create a theatrical imagery, in which surreal female figures are the troop, telling tales about the vanity, the absurdness but also the beauty of human existence. The atmosphere of another era was important, taking at first an inspiration “papier peints decoratifs” (hand painted wallpapers) of 18th century french villas as reference for the landscape surroundings, to conclude with mostly imagined ones in the end.
