Icarus

The ICARUS series was born an autumn morning in Philadelphia, USA. As a student at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, I photographed Ken experimenting with black and white – infrared film and flash studios. The freshly cut tree branches in front of the sidewalks of the old Victorian houses became the wings of the short ground flight.

The series of images with the climax and the fateful fall appeared as if it were precisely designed from the beginning. ICARUS was carefully printed on silver cotton paper, highlighted in selenium and traveled to America and Europe, representing Greece at the Biennale of Valencia’s young artists in 1992.

Although much has changed in my mindset and practice on photography, I always return with tenderness to these images mainly for the joy and motivation they have offered me to continue the long way in what followed.
