“The New Charta” is based on the chartographic masterpiece “Charta (Map) of Greece” made by Rigas Velestinlis, one of the major figures of the Greek Enlightenment. The work is a historical retrospective with references to mythology and ancient Greece, as well as modern history and the city of Athens. The new, hybrid map that takes shape as an atlas of events through fragmentation and recomposition, connects the past with the future. Its silk version resulted in a statement scarf, a small dose of Greece to accompany us everywhere!

Christina Papaioannou
Christina Papaioannou is an Athens-based visual artist from Thessaloniki, Greece. She holds an Integrated Master’s degree from Athens School of Fine Arts. In 2019 she received the MATAROA Award for upcoming artists at 4th Art Thessaloniki InternationalContemporary Art Fair. Her work has been exhibited in Greece, Cyprus, London, and Mallorca and is included in private collections.
